Dave Tuck is running two teams at Oxford sports. Firstly the Men’s A team who are doing well in the Premier League. They are in 2nd place 13 points behind the leaders and a possibility of winning the title.
Dave is also in charge of Oxford Sports Men’s “Regional Squad Tennis”. After promotion last season the squad is now in the Sourthern Region. They have a few long away trips; so it would be great if members could pop down to the club to watch the home fixtures and provide some support, the dates are:
Sunday 12th May vs Milton Keynes
Sunday 2nd June vs Windsor
Sunday 23rd June vs Thornden
All matches start at 12pm midday. These matches are a mix of singles and doubles, support if you can!!
After many years of service with the B Team, Jamie Danby is handing the captains job to Johnny Ayres. Jamie’s leadership and ability to move / borrow players and encourage a good team ethos will be missed.
There have been many times over the seasons when it was looking like we couldn’t field a team; but Jamie comes up with names and ideas of who should play with who, and for what team. We actually call him Houdini!
Oh yes forgot to mention the B team are looking good for promotion to the Premier Division! Thanks for all your efforts and good luck Johnny.
Men’s C team captain Davide is the new recruit and has stepped into the old captains role well. The Cs are in 3rd place in Division 2. After a tought match today 2nd March v Appleton they are hanging on a bit for promotion. Fingers crossed they go up.
Men’s D team are in 8th place in division 3; there are a few points between the Dteam and 10th place Colston but are taking nothing for granted. Tough season for the D team this winter.
Men’s E team – Well done Matt, after promotion last year, his team have done well holding onto 5th place at the moment. It is quite a tight season at the lower end of Div 5. But Matt being Matt he will be looking to finish much higher in 2020.
Men’s F team were in with a shout of promotion from Division 7, but a heavy defeat by a strong 2nd place Coston team towards the end of the season put promotion on hold for this campaign. Donald’s team finished in 5th place. Next season!!
Middweek Leagues. This format is fairly new at Oxford Sports. As the name suggests the matches are in the week during the day time. They are proving popular with two teams in the divisions. Anyone intersted in playing matches please contact Martin Leicester or Carol Mitchell. These games are a little more relaxed (can you relax playing tennis?) In that games are not strictly played on certain days. Captains can decide a new date if there are problems getting a team together.
This season seems to have been a tough one to look after this year; but as always captains and their players plus fringe team members have stepped up to help the cause.
There were many times when it was looking like we couldn’t field full teams but its not happened yet; Perhaps I shouldn’t have said that!
Not to forget the juniors that play for the teams at Oxford Sports. They have stepped in and preformed well as always; and with the encouragement from “seasoned” team members I hope they enjoy the experience and play many more games for the club. Thanks.
