Men’s A Team Roll Back The Years
It would have been a day in the Summer of 2005 when David Tuck, Tom Astle, Jim Baker and Ak Izrailev last took to the court as a team to represent Oxford Sports Men’s A.
There were several differences that day. Jim would have been the coach of David, Tom and Ak in the Oxford Sports U18 Performance Programme.
Ak would have had hair, Tom would have been 15 years old and David would have been a moody teenager.
14 years later on Saturday 2nd March 2019, the same team took to the court again to play Faringdon Men’s A in the Oxfordshire Babolat Premier Division.
It would be an easy 8-0 victory for the Oxford Men’s A side and a thoroughly enjoyable, albeit slightly surreal experience.
Tom still possesses the monster forehand he had in 2005, Ak is bald but is still a class act and David is slightly less moody. A big thanks needs to go to Jim for improving us as players during our teenage years to let this opportunity happen as middle aged men.
Oxford Sports currently lie second in the Premier Division with games in hand on Oxfordshire Health and Rackets Club. It promises to be a tense finale!
